The April 8 webinar, Closing the Achievement Gap in Rural Districts: Lessons from Research and the Field will provide participants with research and information about the instructional and organizational practices of districts that have closed the achievement gap. Webinar participants will increase their knowledge of research-based practices for closing the achievement gap in rural districts between students who qualify for free or reduced price meals and those who do not. Participants will learn the hypotheses and experiences of superintendents from rural districts in Colorado whose districts have narrowed the achievement gap in English/language arts, mathematics, and science.

This webinar will provide participants with research and information related to instructional and organizational practices in rural districts that have closed the achievement gap. Shelley Billig from the Regional Education Laboratory (REL) Central at Marzano Research will introduce the topic and describe the work of the Rural Education Research Alliance. Edward Reeves from Morehead State University will summarize his work on the national study on Closing the Achievement Gap in Rural High Schools. Franklin Reeves, Superintendent of the Genoa-Hugo School District in Hugo, Colorado and Bret Miles, Superintendent of the Holyoke School District in Holyoke, Colorado will provide overviews of their districts and factors in the areas of teaching and learning, district leadership, and organization and structure and processes that may have contributed to gap closure in their districts.
